Acrobat Reader Distribution Update In addition to distributing the Acrobat Reader installer exactly as provided by Adobe, the Reader End User License Agreement also gives you the option of distributing a pre-installed version of Acrobat Reader that runs from a CD-ROM. ________________________________________________________________________ C. Setting Up Acrobat 4.0 Reader to Run from a CD-ROM Acrobat 4.0 Reader is capable of running from a CD-ROM for viewing PDF documents. This is useful for content developers who distribute PDF's on CD-ROM. It ensures that the CD-ROM user is able to view the PDF documents on the CD-ROM when Acrobat Reader is not installed on their computer. The following instructions explain how to create a version of Acrobat Reader that will run from a CD-ROM for Apple Power Macintosh and Microsoft Windows systems. Windows 1. Select the language of Acrobat Reader you want to run from a CD-ROM. 2. Decompress the multi-file installer folder for that language onto the hard drive that will be used to create your CD-ROM (do not run the installer, the entire multi-file installer folder should be put on the CD itself). The multi-file installer folders are compressed as .zip files on the Acrobat 4.0 Reader CD. 3. After the CD-ROM has been created, PDF's can be viewed on the CD-ROM by: 1. Dragging the icon of a PDF file onto the Acrobat Reader application icon 2. Launching the Acrobat Reader on the CD-ROM and using the "OPEN" command under the "FILE" menu to view the file they want to view. 3. Generating a command line in Autorun.inf or other application launching facility. NOTE: Windows users will not be able to launch Acrobat Reader on the CD-ROM by double-clicking a PDF document icon on the CD-ROM. Windows users must follow one of the processes in step 3 above. Macintosh 1. Select the language of Acrobat Reader you want to run from a CD-ROM. 2. Run the installer for that language and install Acrobat Reader onto a local hard drive. 3. After installation is complete, drag the Acrobat Reader folder from your local hard drive to the hard drive that will be used to create your CD-ROM. 4. After the CD-ROM has been created, a user will be able to simply double-click on a PDF file and it will launch the Acrobat Reader on the CD-ROM to view the file. ________________________________________________________________________ D. Setting up Multiple Language Support in the User Interface Acrobat Reader 4.0 can be setup to support multiple languages in the user interface. The following steps explain how to do this. 1. Start with an installed version of Acrobat Reader (such as one created to run from a CD-ROM as described in Section C). 2. Launch the installer of a different language from the Acrobat Reader CD-ROM and direct the installation to the installer folder referenced in step number 1. 3. Repeat Step 2 for each language you wish to install. ________________________________________________________________________ E. Installing Support for Japanese, Chinese and Korean Viewing documents that contain Japanese, Chinese or Korean requires installation of the appropriate language font. This CD-ROM contains Adobe's Asian Font Pack, which allows you to install one or all of the double-byte fonts for viewing documents that contain Japanese, Chinese or Korean text. 1. Locate the Asian Font Pack folder on the CD-ROM. 2. Launch the installer for the language of the font support you want to install. 3. Direct installation to the folder that contains Acrobat Reader 4.0. 4. Repeat this process for each desired language. NOTE: The Japanese Font Pack software may not be freely redistributed. Additional copies of this software may be obtained by registering at the Adobe web site at: http://www.adobe.com/prodindex/acrobat/cjkfontpack.html ________________________________________________________________________ F. Acrobat Reader 4.0 ME (Arabic and Hebrew viewing) Viewing documents that contain Arabic or Hebrew requires Acrobat Reader 4.0 ME. This version of Acrobat is available with an English or French user interface. Sections C & D above to do not apply to Acrobat Reader 4.0 ME.
