Jernbaneinfrastrukturforskriften §3-1 krever at «jernbaneinfrastrukturen skal prosjekteres, bygges og testes i henhold til nasjonale og internasjonale standarder». Jernbaneinfrastrukturforskriften §2-4 krever også at «infrastrukturforvalter skal drifte og vedlikeholde jernbaneinfrastrukturen i henhold til nasjonale og internasjonale standarder».
