Lavspenning/Kabler/Balisekabel - MEBI 2x9x0,9 mm

1 SCOPE

1.1 Purpose

The purpose of the technical specification is to provide guidance for the production, test procedures and delivery of products according to stated requirements. The technical specification contains technical and functional requirements to be fulfilled.

The cables shall provide capability to transfer power and/or data signals to external safety facilities. The cables shall be free of halogens and self-extinguishing. The cables shall withstand relevant loads that may be present in normal operation of safety facilities for railways.

M (1. letter) = foamed insulation of PE / PP with filling compound (Vaseline)
E (2. letter) = sheath of PE / PP
B (3. letter) = armouring (2 steel tapes)
I (4. letter) = outer sheath of halogen-free polymer (self-extinguishing)

The cable will be a part of the safety facilities of the railway infrastructure.

Possible use is connection to track coil with parallel interface.

1.2 History

The cables in this specification have got the designation including MEBI – and should include Vaseline and steel tapes for protection and EMC.

2 REQUIREMENTS

2.1 Electrical requirements

a) Electrical properties at 20 °C:

1 Capacitance, between two conductors: ≤ 50 ± 15 nF/km
2 DC resistance, maximum: 27,0 ohm/km
3 Insulation resistance: 1 Gohm x km
4 Voltage test, conductor to conductor: 1 kV DC
5 Voltage test, conductor to armouring / shield: 1 kV DC

2.2 Cable types and mechanical requirements

a) The following mechanical requirements apply:

Number of conductors Designation F.number Min. bending diameter
(mm)
Max. longitudinal load
(N)
Weight (approx.)
(kg/km)
2 x 9 MEBI 2x9x0,9 mm To be stated 400 300 380

The equivalent cross section area of the conductor is approx. 0,63 mm².

F.number is a unique 9-digit number identifying the specific production variant.

2.3 Constructions of cable elements and cables

a) The following dimensions apply:

Number of conductors 2x9
Conductor diameter, annealed Cu (mm) 0,9
Outer insulation diameter, foamed HDPE (10 - 20 %) (mm) 1,66
Group of conductors filled with Vaseline,
random position
9 conductors
Polymer tape with number markings (identification)
Number of groups (each with 9 conductors) 2
Cable core (mm) 9,5
Inner sheath, black PE (mm) 11,5
Galvanic steel tapes (mm)
(mm)
(2*0,2)
12,5
Outer sheath, black LSFROH (mm)
(Low Smoke Flame Retardant Zero Halogen)
15,5

b) The conductors shall have a colour coding permeating the insulation:

Brown Red Orange Yellow Green Blue Violet Grey White
Conductor number, (1. group) 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Conductor number, (2. group) 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18

c) The Vaseline shall have a melting point above 80 °C.

d) A rip thread shall be included under the inner sheath to assist easy removal of the inner sheath.

e) Just inside the steel tapes a multi-thread tinned copper conductor of minimum 1,5 mm² shall be included.

f) The two steel tapes shall be revolved with an overlap.

g) A rip thread may be included under the outer sheath to assist easy removal of the outer sheath.

h) The compound of the outer sheath shall be selected to minimize problems with rodents and UV radiation.

2.4 Tools

a) It shall be possible to terminate the cables without the use of special tools.

2.5 Fire properties

a) The cables shall fulfil the requirements in IEC 60332-1 (related to fire).

2.6 Markings

a) The outer sheath of the cable shall have easy readable and durable markings with the following information:

  1. manufacturer's name
  2. designation
  3. F.number
  4. accumulative length at every meter of the actual production length (note)
  5. preferably also a unique production identity
  6. year of production

(Note) The first and the last length figures shall be readable at/on the production package (drum or other package).

b) € marking is not relevant.

2.7 Quality certificate

a) A quality certificate containing test results or control check points shall accompany the cable and the invoice. The quality certificate shall indicate the purchase number.

2.8 Documentation, language

a) Product sheets shall be available in Norwegian.

3 ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS

a) All cables shall be fitted with protective caps at both ends to avoid intrusion of moisture and contamination.

b) Production, use and disposal of the products shall be possible obeying national regulations (Forurensningsloven).
