1.2 Purpose
The purpose of the technical specification is to provide guidance for the production, test procedures and delivery of products according to stated requirements. The technical specification contains technical and functional requirements to be fulfilled.
The OPGW shall provide capability to transfer information signals using 48 or 96 optical fibres.
The OPGW shall provide capability to transfer high currents.
1.3 History
First edition: 25.08 2011.
2 REQUIREMENTS
Two variants of OPGW are specified, one with 48 optical fibres and one with 96 optical fibres.
2.1 Optical requirements for the fibres

3 | Current carrying capacity, short time (1 s, 20 °C - 200 °C) | 27 kA |
4 | Tensil strength | 80 kN |
5 | Elasticity of elongation | 57 kN/mm2 |
6 | Temperature coefficient | 23•10-6 |
7 | Temperature, in operation | -40 °C - +80 °C |
8 | Temperature, installation | -15 °C - +40 °C |
2.3 Cable types and mechanical requirements
a) The following mechanical requirements apply:
Number of optical fibres |
Designation | F.number | Diameter (mm) |
Min. bending diameter (mm) |
Max. static tension (kN) |
Weight (approx.) (kg/km) |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
48 | G48-SM 9/125 QXRX xxxxxxx | to be defined | 21,5 | 650 | 80 | 750 |
96 | G96-SM 9/125 QXRX xxxxxxx | to be defined | 21,5 | 650 | 80 | 750 |
F.number is an uniqe 9-digit number identifying the specific production variant.
2.4 Mechanical construction of metallic elements
a) The aluminium wires shall be of quality AA with a diameter of 4,25 mm.
b) One aluminium wire (AA, ø4,25 mm) shall be in center.
c) The first layer shall consist of:
- 5 aluminium wires (AA, ø4,25 mm).
- one steel tube with optical fibres (48 or 96 optical fibres)
d) The second layer shall consist of 12 aluminium wires (AA, ø4,25 mm)
2.5 Primary cladding and colour code for the optical fibres
a) The optical single mode fibres shall have a primary cladding.
- The minimum diameter of the primary cladding shall be 250 µm.
- The colouring of the primary cladding shall be durable and resistent to cleaning aids.
- It shall be easy to clean off the primary cladding with natural means without health risk. The means and method shall be provided.
b) The primary cladding shall be coloured according to the colours defined in IEC 60304. The following colour code shall be used:
