1 Purpose

This specification sets out objective requirements concerning the units to be supplied, to enable suppliers to design, manufacture, inspect and deliver a product that meets the expectations of Bane NOR.

2 Scope

This specification applies to sleeper screws supplied to Bane NOR for the purposes of fixing baseplates to wooden and concrete sleepers.

3 Function

The sleeper screws are to fasten steel baseplates to sleepers made of wood or concrete.

4 Requirements

4.1 Dimensions

• Screws for concrete sleepers:In accordance with drawing Sk 946
• Screws for wooden sleepers:In accordance with drawing Sk 1086

4.2 Grade of material

Durability category 5.6 in non-hardened condition in accordance with UIC 864-1.

4.3 Manufacture/delivery

The sleeper screws must be manufactured and delivered in accordance with UIC 864-1, with the following additional requirements:

• The screws must be shaped and threaded when hot (Section 1.2.1).
• Set of the necessary templates for inspection purposes must be supplied to Bane NOR and approved before production commences (Section 1.3A).
• A materials certificate must be supplied to Bane NOR (Section 2.1.2.1).
• Screws for wooden sleepers must be supplied “black-dipped” in mineral oil (Section 3.1).
• Screws for concrete sleepers must be supplied hot-dip galvanised.
